Best Books of 2016

It’s almost 2017, and that means that it’s time for a round-up of the best books I’ve read over the past year.

Once again, the list is a mixture of old and new titles; the only requirement is that I will have first read the book in 2016 and that I didn’t read the book for work.

Best Fantasy: The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin
Best Science Fiction: Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel
Contemporary Fiction: One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Best Graphic Design: Outside the Box by Gail Anderson
Best Nonfiction: Better than New by Nicole Curtis

Best YA Overall: A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
Best Contemporary YA: I Was Here by Gayle Forman
Best YA Fantasy: The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale

Best Middle Grade Overall: The Voyage to Magical North by Claire Fayers
Contemporary Middle Grade: Ghosts by Raina Telgemeier
Middle Grade Fantasy: Mice of the Round Table: A Tail of Camelot by Julie Leung
