Happy Mother’s Day!

To all those American mothers out there:

Happy Mother’s Day!

(You UK mothers have already had your day! Don’t get greedy ;))

In honor of Mother’s Day, I attempted to crowd source a list of the best book-fictional mothers my Facebook friends and I could think of. We came up with two, because all the rest are mostly either evil, dead, or absent. So, here’s to those two fictional, wonderful, badass mothers we thought of:

Catelyn Stark from A Song of Fire and Ice series by George R.R. Martin
Molly Weasley from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling.

Catelyn Stark
Molly Weasley

Both are fiercely protective of their children, going to great lengths to save them, no matter the cost.

Also, funnily enough…. the actress who plays Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairly) in Game of Thrones is none other than Hermione Granger’s mother in The Deathly Hallows Part 1:

Hermione's mother is Catelyn Stark
Hermione’s mother is Catelyn Stark

Enjoy the rest of your day!

  1. Such an interesting thought that there are so few good mothers in books. I couldn’t think of any when you posted on Facebook. I did just think about John Green’s books, most of his protagonists all have very intelligent and caring parents.

  2. Catelyn is annoying in the books but I will not deny that she is a great mum. I can’t imagine the pain she went through seeing her children separate and die.
